Fox Corporation to acquire Roku for $22 billion
Fox Corp and TV streaming platform Roku have agreed to a cash-and-stock deal valued at $22 billion and expect to close the transaction in the first half of next year. Through the acquisition, Fox Corp are looking to scale its reach as Roku reaches 100 million households, primarily in the US where it is the leading CTV platform.
Since the separation of 21st Century Fox, Fox Corp have focused on news, live sports and entertainment. As more American households cut the cord on traditional TV, Fox Corp have to compete within streaming at a larger scale. The deal with Roku is said to strengthen their position across the vertical value chain, from content to TV distribution. Further, the acquisition also gives Fox Corp access to Roku’s consumer viewing data, which is expected to facilitate digital ad sales.
Both parties have stated that Roku will maintain a broad content offering, by continuing to partner with multiple content and streaming services. However, the parties express that increasing the presence of Fox’s content on Roku’s homepage is a driver for generating returns from the acquisition.

Threads reach 500 million monthly active users
Meta’s social media app Threads has hit a new milestone in monthly usage. The app now has 500 million active users monthly, and closing in on its main competitor, X, which reportedly has around 550 million active users.
Threads was launched by Meta in 2023 and has grown rapidly, driven in part by its integration with Meta’s existing platforms, Facebook and Instagram. The development of the app began shortly after Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, now X, with Zuckerberg stating the aim to build a ‘more friendly version of Twitter’.
To continue to grow and attract users, Meta is introducing new features to Threads. After a period as a beta feature, Communities is now fully launched. It allows users to gather and discuss in spaces devoted to a specific topic. The beta version launched at the end of 2025, and Meta claim it is one of the drivers of the growth in users.
Another new feature is Your Algo, which is a tool allowing users to privately shape their feed via AI prompts. It is an extension of the existing Dear Algo, which works in a similar way but publicly.

Prime Video ad-tier live in Denmark and Norway
Since introducing ads to their subscribers in late 2025 in Sweden, subscribers to Prime Video in Denmark and Norway now also have ads in their viewing experience.
Yesterday, June 17th, marks the date where advertising began rolling out via Prime Video to both Danish and Norwegian subscribers. At first, this only applies to standalone (D2C) customers, while subscribers via third party partners will not see ads until the next date of renewal.
Subscribers are then allowed to pay an extra monthly fee of 29kr to remove the ads.
Amazon’s Prime Video is the latest in a long line of actors launching HVOD across the Nordics. The lower-priced tiers have driven great growth across the region, representing around 80% of all new subscriptions taken throughout 2025.
