Mediavision: Social video on the rise – traditional TV reaches new low
Swedes’ viewing habits continue to shift online. Traditional TV now accounts for only 30 percent of all video viewing – the lowest level ever measured by Mediavision. At the same time, social video is growing rapidly and represents 20 percent of total viewing today. These findings are presented in Mediavision’s Q3 analysis of the Swedish TV and streaming market.
On average, Swedes watch 2.5 hours of video per day. The total viewing time has remained stable over a long period. What is changing is how people watch.
In just a year, traditional TV has dropped by 15 minutes in daily viewing time per person. That time is moving to digital platforms – streaming services and social video – which together now account for 70 percent of all video viewing.

ACQUSITIONS
Swedish Competition Authority approves Viaplay’s acquisition of Allente
In July, when Viaplay presented its Q2 earnings report, the company announced the acquisition of the remaining 50% of Allente from Telenor. Viaplay has now received approval from the Swedish Competition Authority, and the transaction appears set for completion.
“The Swedish Competition Authority’s overall assessment is that the concentration is not likely to significantly impede the existence or development of effective competition within the country as a whole or a substantial part of it,” the authority wrote in its decision dated October 31st.
Viaplay had previously obtained approval for the acquisition from relevant authorities in Denmark and Norway. In Sweden, the company also received confirmation from the Inspectorate for Strategic Products that the notification would be submitted without action.
In connection with Viaplay’s third-quarter report, the company stated that it expected to complete the acquisition of Allente during the fourth quarter, which Viaplay thus is one step closer to.
