EARNINGS
Elisa, Netflix, & Tele2 kicks off the Q1 earnings season
Elisa, Netflix, is the media company that kicks off the earnings season. Here are a few of the highlights from the company’s Q1 report:
Netflix
- – Revenue for Netflix grew 16% YOY to USD 12,25 million in Q1 2026, and operating income also grew 18% YOY to USD 3,957 million. Both were ahead of the company’s guidance due to slightly higher-than-planned subscription revenue.
- – The company said it expects second-quarter revenue to increase by 13% and reiterated its earlier warning that content spending would be weighed in the first half of the year due to the timing of title launches. Netflix added that it expects the second quarter to have the highest YOY content amortization growth rate in 2026, before lowering in the second half of the year.
- – The company announced that Reed Hastings, Netflix’s co-founder and current chairman, will exit the board in June when his term expires.
- – Shares of Netflix fell 9% in extended trading following the report and have since then fallen slightly further.
Elisa
- – Elisa’s revenue decreased by -1.3% or EUR 7m to EUR 548m during Q1 2026, mainly driven by lower equipment sales.
- – Comparable EBITDA grew by 2.2% or EUR 4m to EUR 203m.
- – Elisa’s full-year revenue is estimated to be at the same level as or slightly higher than in 2025. The company states that the development in the general economy includes many uncertainties, growth in the Finnish economy has been weak and that the Finnish telecom market is competitive.
- – The share price was largely stable after the report.
Tele2
- – Revenue grew 3% organically YOY in Q1 2026 to SEK 7,246 million as growth in end-user service revenue and operator revenue was partly offset by a decline in equipment revenue.
- – Underlying EBITDAaL increased by 11% organically driven by cost control across operations and end-user service revenue growth.
- – Net profit from total operations was SEK 6.4 billion, an increase of SEK 5.5 billion compared to Q1 2025. Earnings per share from total operations of SEK 9.20 in Q1 2026.
- – Tele2 reiterates its guidance for 2026 and still expects low to mid-single-digit organic growth in underlying EBITDAaL.
- – Shares of Tele2 rose modestly at market opening today.
SPORTS
TV 2, Amedia, and Schibsted secure rights to Norwegian league football
Norwegian football has entered into a new media rights agreement for the period 2029 – 2034. The top men’s league Eliteserien extends its partnership with TV 2, while the second-tier OBOS league gets a new media home at Amedia.
“This is a very good day for the clubs in the Eliteserien and the OBOS league. The strong development we have seen in the leagues in recent years is now being recognized in the market, and we are getting media partners who really want to help develop our leagues further,” says Chairman of the Board of Norsk Toppfotball, Inge Henning Andersen.
TV 2 has had the rights to Eliteserien since 2023 and will continue to broadcast the league until 2034 under the new agreement, while the OBOS league will have a new home at Amedia. The company currently has newspapers in 15 of the 16 locations where the OBOS league has clubs, which provides opportunities to strengthen the local and regional coverage of the league.
“The OBOS league is a league with strong local roots and great development potential. With Amedia, the league gets a media partner that is close to the clubs and local communities they represent. It provides an exciting starting point for taking the league further, says Andersen.
Schibsted has simultaneously secured the broadcasting rights to the Norwegian Cup for both women and men, as well as matches involving youth national teams for the same period.
“This is an important step forward in the development of Schibsted as a player in live video and rights. The agreement is clear proof that we are serious about our stated investment in video, audio, sports, and entertainment. We are proud to partner with Norwegian football and look forward to developing this offering further together with the Norwegian Football Federation and the other rights holders,” says Schibsted CEO Siv Juvik Tveitnes.
Schibsted states that with VG as the national engine, combined with regional media outlets, the company has a unique position to reach a wide audience while also strengthening local engagement around the matches. VG has broadcasted live sports on VGTV for nearly 10 years, and will offer more than 2,000 live events in 2026.
“VG has a unique position with strong reach, connecting with large parts of the population every day. We also have a strong appeal among younger audiences. Together with Schibsted’s regional newspapers, we offer a powerful combination of national scale, local presence, and innovation. This puts us in a strong position to create engagement around Norwegian football and capture the drama when cup upsets happen,” says VG’s publisher Gard Steiro.
