Mediavision: US giants dominate European streaming
Streaming services from the US dominate online video viewing across Europe. On average, local services account for approximately 25 percent of online viewing in February 2026. These are findings in an exclusive new analysis from Mediavision in collaboration with the DPP.
Finland stands out as the strongest market for local actors – accounting for 43 percent of online viewing. Denmark follows at approximately 30 percent. At the other end of the scale, Spain’s local services reach 19 percent. The gap is explained by factors including the strength of domestic public broadcasting, local content production, and US actors’ presence and offerings on respective market.

Read up on the full press release here with commentary from Mediavision’s Principal analyst Fredrik Liljeqvist and Mark Harrison, Founder and Chief Content Officer at the DPP.

Podimo acquires production studio and Podme signs top podcasts
The Nordic podcast services Podimo and Podme have made significant investments recently.
Danish Podimo announced its first acquisition in the German market yesterday. Production company Arc.Studio has been acquired for an undisclosed amount. Arc.Studio will join Podimo Studios, the content arm of Podimo, alongside podcast labels Tonny Media and Dag en Nacht in the Netherlands, as well as the Danish podcast agency and advertising platform Podads.
“The creator economy is maturing rapidly, and creators increasingly require partners that combine creative ambition with long-term investment and international reach. With Arc.Studio joining Podimo Studios, we are building a truly international home for ambitious, multiplatform storytelling,” Georgia Brown, Chief Content Officer at Podimo, told Deadline.
“In our current base case we have five country launches planned,” CEO Morten Strunge told Mediawatch.

Swedish podcast company Podme, on the other hand, has made significant investments in specific podcasts. The podcast Alex & Sigge is now moving from Perfect Day Media and the free RSS feed to Podme, where it will sit behind a paywall. The podcast has long been one of the largest commercial podcasts in Sweden.
“Welcoming Alex and Sigge is one of the biggest things that has happened in Podme’s history. Alex & Sigge’s podcast is one of Sweden’s most influential podcasts, and their transition strengthens our position as the home of the country’s largest podcasts. We look forward to continuing to be a natural part of listeners’ everyday lives for a long time to come,” said Moa Soltanian Magnusson, Head of Content at Podme.
Earlier this year, another of Sweden’s most popular podcasts, Ursäkta, also moved from the RSS feed to Podme.
Mediavision’s Principal Analyst commented in Dagens Media on whether the acquisition of Ursäkta and Alex & Sigge could mark the beginning of a reversal in the trend.
“We have not yet seen any major changes in the listenership figures – it is too early for that – but it is likely that the move will give Podme a boost in subscriber growth,” Fredrik Liljeqvist said.

Banijay and All3Media Merger
Banijay Group and All3Media, owned by investment firm RedBird IMI, have agreed to merge their entertainment production businesses to create one of Europe’s largest multimedia production groups.
Banijay produces the TV drama Peaky Blinders and the Big Brother franchise, while All3Media’s productions include The Traitors and Squid Game: The Challenge. The combined entity would have generated 2024 pro forma revenues exceeding EUR 4.4 billion, according to the companies.
“In this industry, size matters enormously, and with the development of artificial intelligence, the ownership and exploitation of intellectual property are becoming an even more crucial factor,” Banijay CEO François Riahi said in a press call.
The deal would strengthen Banijay’s leading position in global content, he said, and would keep it well positioned as the streaming market consolidates, following Warner Bros. Discovery agreeing to be acquired by Skydance Media last month.
The transaction is expected to close by fall 2026. Banijay chief executive Marco Bassetti is set to lead the company, which will retain the Banijay name. Both parties will hold 50% of the combined entity.
