Danish government wants to age limit on social media

Yesterday, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen announced in her opening speech to Parliament that the government intends to introduce an age limit on several social media platforms. The proposal is not yet part of the government’s legislative program for the coming parliamentary year, published on Tuesday. According to Frederiksen, children and young people under 15 should be prohibited from using certain platforms, though parents would be allowed to grant permission from the age of 13.

“Mobile phones and social media are stealing our children’s childhood,” Frederiksen said.
She did not specify which platforms would be affected, when the restriction would take effect, or how it would be enforced. Most social media services currently have a minimum age of 13. Still, figures from the organization Børns Vilkår, cited by Frederiksen, show that 94 percent of Danish children in the 7th grade had a social media account before turning 13.

In July, new EU Commission guidelines gave Denmark the option to set a national age limit for social media use. Digitalization Minister Caroline Stage described the move as a “new breakthrough” and personally proposed setting the age limit at 15. She expressed hope that such a rule could be passed in Parliament by 2026.

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: we have been too naive. We have left children’s digital lives to platforms that never had their well-being in mind. We must move from digital captivity to community,” she said in a press release.

The legislative program published the same day does not yet include a formal proposal. If postponed until the next parliamentary year, the process could conflict with the upcoming general election, scheduled no later than November 1, 2026.

This is not the first time Frederiksen has supported a 15-year age limit. During the 2024 European Parliament election campaign, she and her colleague Christel Schaldemose co-authored an op-ed in Politiken calling for the minimum age to be raised from 13 to 15.

Waoo enters agreement with Disney+

Waoo and Disney have reached an agreement that will see Disney+ included in Waoo’s TV packages starting January 2026. The deal was announced yesterday through a joint press release.

“The agreement with Disney allows us, with pride, to offer Disney+ to our customers as part of their Waoo TV packages. We know that Disney+ is one of the most in-demand streaming services, and with this deal we ensure that our customers gain access to some of the best entertainment and live football. Securing the best possible TV experience for our customers is the driving force behind everything we do, and this collaboration with Disney+ is a perfect example of that ambition,” said Brian Lønroth, CEO of Waoo.

The details will be revealed closer to launch, but Waoo states that Disney+ will be included in certain subscriptions and optional in other subscriptions.

Disney+ recently raised its prices in Denmark, affecting all subscription plans. Waoo has not yet communicated any potential price adjustments following the addition of Disney+.

ChatGPT reaches 800m weekly users and adds Spotify integration

OpenAI has announced significant new milestones for its ChatGPT service. “More than 800 million people use ChatGPT every week, and we process over six billion tokens per minute on the API,” CEO Sam Altman revealed at the company’s “Dev Day” on Monday. Altman also confirmed the launch of app integrations, with Spotify among the first partners.

“Starting today, both Spotify Free and Premium users can bring Spotify into their ChatGPT conversations to receive personalized music and podcast recommendations,” Spotify said in a press release.

Anyone mentioning Spotify in a ChatGPT prompt will now be invited to connect their account. Once linked, they can ask the chatbot to play specific songs, albums, playlists, or podcast episodes, or request recommendations based on mood or theme. Track links in the chat then opens directly in Spotify’s app.

The Spotify app in ChatGPT is now live in English across 145 countries to all logged-in ChatGPT Free, Plus, and Pro accounts, available on both web and mobile (iOS and Android).

Spotify is the exclusive music partner of OpenAI at launch. Other initial integrations include Booking.com, Canva, Figma, Expedia, among others, with several more on the way this year, including Peloton, Uber, TripAdvisor, and OpenTable. OpenAI also plans to open submissions for additional apps and will share details on monetization soon.
